The U.S. pet industry is paws down--and fins, claws, scales, and wings down--an important and significant contributor to the U.S. economy as evidenced by the findings of a study on the economic impact of the U.S. pet industry announced recently at the Pet Industry Leadership Conference in Laguna Beach, California.

From small, local businesses to larger retailers and manufacturers, the U.S. pet industry supported more than 1.3 million U.S. jobs and paid more than $60 billion in salaries, wages, and benefits in 2015 all while advancing the human-animal bond and protecting animal welfare, according to the study.

More on these and other contributions to the United States economy from businesses and employees dedicated to the compassionate care of pets can be found in the study briefing paper.
