Congressional Legislation on Track to Allow Pets on Trains

Say hello to Jane, a 5-year-old Pomeranian.

Jane’s family travels often and is one of the 56% of American households who own pets. Her family wishes Jane could go with them when they take the train to visit a sick relative undergoing intensive treatment a few states away. Her bright eyes, soft fur, and friendly demeanor would do wonders to comfort their children during these trying times.

But they can’t—at least not today.

You see, Amtrak only allows service dogs on trains even though airlines allow domestic pets to travel by plane. If well-behaved, properly kenneled dogs or cats can fly with their owners across the country, why can’t Amtrak welcome them aboard as well?

Tell your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator to "Pass the Pets on Trains Act of 2013".

Situations like this are why we need you to tell your U.S. Representative to pass the Pets on Trains Act of 2013.

That’s right. The next trip for Jane’s family may be easier for all involved thanks to the Pets on Trains Act of 2013—a piece of legislation (H.R. 2066) in the U.S. House of Representatives which all pet owners can happily support.

Make it safer and easier for pet owners to travel with their dog or cat.

The Pets on Trains Act of 2013 would require Amtrak to create a policy allowing passengers to transport domesticated dogs and cats on certain Amtrak trains. Cats, dogs, and their owners deserve The Pets on Trains Act of 2013. It protects pets and helps further the human-animal bond.

Here’s what we need you to do.

Take a few seconds and use this quick-and-easy tool to send a personalized note to your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator telling them to SUPPORT the Pets on Trains Act of 2013.

Our tool includes several suggested talking points, similar to the one below, you can use in your message:

"As a pet owner, I know how hard it can be to travel with a dog or cat. Pets are part of the family, and owners should have the ability to safely and humanely travel with their dog or cat if the pet is well-behaved and kenneled, just like on airlines."

Stand and be heard. Your voice matters and it is essential for legislators to hear from you on this issue if you want the Pets on Trains Act of 2013 to be adopted.

Act now. This measure will be voted on any day now. Help pass the Pets on Trains Act of 2013 by telling your U.S. Representative you want a safe, humane alternative to traveling by plane with your pet.
