Citing a need to better prepare for cybersecurity threats, the USDA’s Animal & Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) announced today that its Animal Care Search Tool would be unavailable from Friday, August 12th until Tuesday, August 23rd.
11/10/2016 UPDATE: S. 63 has moved again and is now scheduled for a hearing and vote by the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee on Monday, November 14th at 2 PM in Room 9 of the State House Annex in Trenton. We need as many people as possible to attend and voice their opposition to this ban on responsible pet sales.
If the proposed amendment were to become law, consumer freedoms and local businesses take a hit. The small, local businesses that represent Cambridge’s neighborhood pet stores would be forced to close in much the same way as a pet store in Deerfield Beach, Florida had to go out of business after a less extreme local pet sale ban was recently enacted. Don't let Cambridge be next.
The regulation of Ohio’s pet stores requires a statewide effort and this amendment provides for the statewide regulation of pet stores in lieu of disparate local laws regulating the sale of pets. Supporting this amendment to OH HB 166 ensures puppies provided by Ohio’s pet stores are sourced from responsible breeders and would prevent any future local pet sale ban ordinances from being considered.
