CALIFORNIA: New San Francisco Pet Ban ProposedDate Posted: June 8, 2011 UPDATE: Proposal for an ordinance was adopted at the June 9th meeting of the San Francisco Animal Control & Welfare Commission. Proposal, and possible language, will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for future action.
GEORGIA: Department of Natural Resources Considering Native Freshwater Turtle RegulationsDate Posted: January 23, 2012 UPDATE: Proposed rules, regarding regulations to establish procedures for export, farming and sale of native fresh-water turtles, were adopted at a Department of Natural Resources meeting on January 25th. The rules become effective in 30 days.

MARYLAND: Charles County To Hold Work Session on Proposed Animal RegulationsDate Posted: September 30, 2011 UPDATE: The Charles County, MD Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on November 1st to discuss proposed animal regulations. Comment period remains open with a vote on the proposal set for early 2012.
MICHIGAN: Ionia City Council To Adopt Animal BansDate Posted: December 19, 2011 UPDATE: Ordinance No. 491 which would ban the personal ownership of "exotic, rare, or dangerous" animals and phase out pit bull terrier ownership was voted down by a 5-3 vote at the City Council's January 3rd meeting. The ordinance will be reintroduced at the February Council Meeting without the breed specific language.

OHIO: Governor Implements Executive Order on "Dangerous Wild Animals"Date Posted: October 24, 2011 UPDATE: Ohio EO 24 was signed by Governor Kasich on October 21st. HB 352, banning possession of all "dangerous exotic animals" was introduced on October 21st and has been assigned to the House Committee on Agriculture & Natural Resources, where it awaits its first committee hearing.
RHODE ISLAND: Python and Boa Constrictor Ban Presented in Rhode IslandDate Posted: January 25, 2012 UPDATE: SB 2033 is set to be heard by the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture on February 15th (Room 211, Rise of Senate).
VIRGINIA: Wild Animal Bill Carried Over To 2013Date Posted: February 1, 2012 UPDATE: House Bill 1242 has been deferred to the 2013 by the House Committee on Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources. WASHINGTON: Department of Agriculture To Adopt Animal Import RulesDate Posted: December 5, 2011 UPDATE: A rulemaking to add a new section to state Code, requiring a destination "physical address" be presented on transportation documents when importing animals into the state, was adopted on January 3, 2012 (effective February 3, 2012).
